Alamo Celiac GIG®, a Branch of the Gluten Intolerance Group®, also known as GIG®, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The mission of the Gluten Intolerance Group is to provide support to those with gluten intolerance diseases, including celiac disease (CD) and dermatitis herpetiformis, their support members, families, health care professionals, and the public.
At the local level, our GIG chapter operates based on a volunteer staff that holds quarterly meetings and special events, publish a monthly newsletter, offer guidance to newly diagnosed members, host a web site, collect dues ($20/year/member) and manage the membership database. One of our members operates a free and active email listserv for sharing information on CD, related conditions, and gluten free restaurants/food products.
With 1 in 133 Americans estimated to have Celiac Disease, and only 3% of the population with CD diagnosed , this is a fast growing segment of the population! The Alamo Celiac GIG team is interested in increasing awareness and fundraising efforts in order to provide continued services to those newly diagnosed and ongoing support for those living with Celiac Disease.
